Cheques and promissory notes: receive, send to bank, collect

Record cheques and notes you receive from customers or issue to suppliers; send them to the bank when due, then mark them collected or bounced.

Steps

  1. 1

Open the Cheques & notes tab

Go to the “Cash and bank” page and switch to the “Cheques & notes” tab. Cheques and notes you received and issued are listed on separate tabs: “Received” and “Issued”.

  2. 2

    Record the cheque you received

Press “Receive cheque/note” and enter the customer, amount, due date, serial number and bank. If there are endorsers on the back, type them in the “Previous endorsers” field, one name per line. A cheque does not enter the cash account; it waits with the status “On hand”.

  3. 3

    Send it to the bank

In the ⋯ menu of the item in the list, choose “Send to bank” and pick the bank account. The status becomes “At bank for collection”. You can select several items and send them together.

  4. 4

    Mark the result

When the money reaches your account, choose “Mark collected”; the amount goes into the cash or bank account you picked. If the cheque is not paid, choose “Mark bounced”; to charge the amount back to the customer, use “Charge to account”.

  5. 5

    Endorsed or your own cheque

If you passed a cheque you received on to a supplier, choose “Endorse to supplier” from the ⋯ menu. If you issued your own cheque or note, record it with “Issue cheque/note”; when it is paid, press “Mark paid”.
